This week marks the 1000th newsletter published by The Liberal Patriot!

Started as a part-time venture in December 2020, TLP has since grown to become a full-time non-profit media organization and publication covering American politics and public policy from a vital center perspective grounded in Franklin Roosevelt’s famous Four Freedoms: freedom of speech and worship; freedom from want and fear.

Nearly every single newsletter we’ve published over the past four years has been free to our subscribers and other outside readers.

And the bulk of our future work will remain free to readers.

But as a non-profit, we are asking readers to consider upgrading to a paid subscription to help underwrite the publication and its mission.

For those who already do so, we can’t thank you enough!

Why upgrade? Mainly to support the operational costs of running a non-profit organization. Donors and paid subscribers to TLP also get full access to all posts and podcasts plus enjoy the ability to connect with other readers through comments, threads and chats, mailbags, and occasional subscriber-only content.

It’s only $5 a month, $50 a year, or $150 annually if you’re feeling particularly generous and want to be a founding member of TLP.

From our very first post, TLP’s vision as a publication and organization has been clear:

The Liberal Patriot seeks to establish an intellectual hub for renewing liberal values in America and reshaping the political conversation on the center-left around the ideas and values necessary for national economic development and international policies that advance American interests. 

Too much of modern political discourse revolves around unsolvable cultural divisions between people rather than common objectives that advance the well-being of all people. What sets liberal democracy apart from other ideologies and systems of government is a focus on the common good and dignity of all people, a commitment to pluralism, and a rejection of reductionist tribal thinking that drives Americans apart through endless culture wars. 

The Liberal Patriot will therefore provide an alternative to existing ideologies and programs on offer from both right and left: the dead-end gridlock produced by right-wing populism, democratic socialism, and multicultural identity politics, as well as the growing authoritarian waves sweeping the globe.
