Dems seem to be unable to grasp how much damage dissolving the Southern Border inflicted on the Party, and the country. Even pro open borders voters, must have wondered about the wisdom of waving in 10 million unvetted souls, without a single extra housing unit, doctor or bilingual teacher .

Mostly impoverished and sparsely educated, it will not matter how hard migrants are willing to toil. The vast majority will never be able to afford life in a high cost country like the US, without massive and permanent subsidies.

Soon, all federal safety nets will end, just as billions in NGO money evaporates, seemingly overnight. Blue States might replace the federal programs, with State subsidies. Red States will not. This will result in migrants loosing subsidized housing, food and healthcare. The result will likely be, homelessness and poverty on a level, unseen in the US since the DustBowl. Many migrants will move to Blue States, or relocate to nations where they can afford to eat and sleep.

Millions of migrants were manipulated by Dems to relocate to a place that was not prepared for them, and whose cost of living was far too high, for their education and skill level. In the meantime, Working Class and Blue Collars Americans, watched their wages plummet, as the cost of affordable housing soared, and their already failing schools, were doused in non English speaking kids, some lacking any previous formal education.

It is not that Dems do not know why their approval rating is at 27%, it is that they will not admit their largest failure. For attempted political gain , they ruined the lives the millions of migrants, and killed the living standards of Working Class and Blue Collar American workers. All before anyone mentions the violent crime and drugs, they knowingly imported, in pursuit of single party rule. The above stats are academically interesting, but Dems do not need more political autopsies, but a Reformation, or maybe an Exorcism.

Trying to figure out which issues will help thwart Trump is a losing game. Figure out which issues will buoy the working and middle classes. And believe in them.

All of this bullshit is not needed. The Democrat party lost the presidential election for one reason and one reason only. That reason is quite simply Joe Biden. Which, of course gave us Kamala!

Expand full comment

So Biden as a reflection of his party - not the senility, but his proffered views - is not to blame at all?

His whole four years was the blame.

Well, I've been saying this for two years, so no surprise. But I've also been saying that Democrats are relying on hoax polls that tell them they are doing well when they ain't. Case in point: there was talk that Democrats could swing BOTH FL special elections. Ah, nope. Looks like R turnout is off the charts and even the weaker candidate, Randy Fine, will win by Trumpian numbers. And the Supe race in WI has seen, again, Rs at +10% in the IPEV/mail-in numbers, which should be shocking to Democrats. This race should have been a gimme for Crawford.

Meanwhile, the single biggest predictor, voter registrations, have continued to surge for Rs. I see NO break in any state from that trend. If, in fact, the tariffs (as they always have in U.S. history) produce positive revenue and Musk's DOGE successfully cuts $1 trillion, the economy is going to hit afterburners.

trust is what's missing. Of course, who trusts Trump... but going back to the democrats - there is a lack of trust. "They" can 'say' they're swinging to the middle/moderate ground but who's going to believe that if they're elected? The far-left libs, the progressives, the socialists in the democratic party are the ones who will NOT win this independent voter's vote.

Exactly! Every time a Democrat makes some moderate noises about gender, immigration, economy, you name it, the progressive harpies come out and herd them back into the fold. Ignore what these supposed moderate Dem's say. Watch how they vote.

separate comment about immigrants for Republicans --- perhaps they've worked hard to get here legally & resent illegals, don't like the dems supporting w/ words & dollars the encouragement of illegals coming here, or the santuary cities...

So, AOC and Bernie aren't the ones to lead us out of the political wilderness? That's news to a lot of their fans in the Democratic Party, unfortunately. They don't know what ballot-box poison sounds like when they hear it.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Shore is really, really good at his job. I listened to both interviews and he has come the closest to getting it right as anyone I've heard speak.

The looming issue that both Democrats and Republicans need to address is the growing budget deficit. Now that interest rates are consistently above four percent, annual debt service payments are now greater than outlays for the Department of Defense. It is unlikely that Republicans in the House will be unanimous in approving additional huge tax cuts. The Democrats will have leverage and will need to explain to voters how they intend to use it.

While depressing to read - spot on across the board. Let’s pray someone in the Dem party can take these key points and use them to lead them out of the wilderness in ‘26.

So, essentially, those partisans who like to say "this is not your grandfather's Republican Party" like those who similarly argue "this is not your grandfather's Democratic Party" have both been proven essentially correct. But in today's politically center/right America, the shifts have rendered the GOP the dominant political party and left the Democratic Left at historic lows and in search of a winning constituency.

Normally I don't watch podcasts, too slow, not structured enough in that they talk around things sometimes or wander off subject. I watched the Ezra Klein/ David Shor podcast to the end, an hour and a half or so. It's like throwing chum in the waters for a data addict. Of course it might be just that he's telling me what I want to hear. To his credit Shor isn't telling me where we should be on issues, but rather where we should be on issues to win.

Also..

Patrick Ruffini had a good piece on his substack yesterday about voting demographics and marriage. https://www.patrickruffini.com/p/trumps-strongest-soldiers?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=1501132&post_id=160019057&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=6a4c4&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email He made an interesting tree map based on marriage, race, sex, and age, though he uses vote cast as his source, and election day exits always make me nervous.

Still waiting for Catalist.

That was very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Shorr is very interesting as very data driven, critically re-examining information and not falling into the error of "my personal political preferences are obviously what should appeal broadly."

His video session with Klein is highly recommendable.

The data based focus stripping away outdated (or perhaps never true but let us say outdated) conceptions should be widely disseminated. Not all of it per se will please any single audience but it is very clear that re-centering on issues that have wide appeal AND that are high on voter priorities, re-centering on positions that are not urban-urbane Lefty elite college degree holders and urbanites centered is needed to get out of the dog house and be an effective and competitive opposition party.

And having an effective and competitive opposition party broadly across the entire nation is badly needed for the health of both parties (as we are seeing live now).

And for God's sake marginalise the navel-gazing AOC - Warrenite Coastal Urbane Urbanite faction.

The democrats thought they could lean in on girlboss feminism and men would stick around.

They didn’t.
