Thank you Ronda. My mom was never the same after her nursing home - belatedly and then only at the insistence of families - finally opened to visitors. I stood in a foot of snow outside her window trying to talk to her through the phone, I cry now just thinking about it.

I am very sorry for your experience and what your mother endured. The emotional brutality, should have been criminally charged.
A close friend, had a 90 year old mother, in a Texas nursing home, who tested positive for Covid, and never so much as coughed. The nursing home, however, took away her nightly martini.
While it sounds trivial, it was the highlight of her evening. She called her daughter, and detailed her plans to call the local news, and explain, the nursing home had instituted cruel and unusual punishment.
Because Texas was less stringent, they compromised, my friend, who was allowed a short visit, nightly, would smuggle in airplane bottles of booze, and the nursing home would pretend, not know, her mother was drinking.
The entire prohibition was unnecessary theatre. Her mother was old, but her mind was fine. If she wanted to enjoy a martini, it did not threaten others. She should have been allowed to make the decision, just as your mother should have been able to choose visitors. I do not believe Americans will ever again, agree to follow such draconian rules.
